RCN is RoCocoNaut. No this is not the Fake Faith I made up here > http://rbfafp6n.pen.io/ ; ryather RCN is a lifestyle brand that promotes the RoCocoNaut approach to living: celebrating humanity, creativity and the surprise of discovering awesome stuff.
Here's what the RoCocoNaut name and brand represent:
RoCocoNaut is a portmanteau of Rococo, Cocoa-bean, and Astronaut.
Rococo, as you might know, is a late Baroque art movement or style > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rococo , a movement which as "... a reaction against the grandeur, symmetry and strict regulations of the Baroque, especially within the context of the Palace of Versailles. In such a way, Rococo artists opted for a more jocular, florid and graceful approach..." We *feel* these artists. We're flowing with that sentiment.
Where the Encyclopædia Britannica states "...the Rococo style represented a reaction against the ponderous design of Louis XIV’s Palace of Versailles and the official Baroque art of his reign" [ http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/506448/Rococo-style ] the RoCocoNaut venture is a reaction against the ponderous conservatism of Top-Heavy, Paternalistic, Dictatorial cultures where a Fear of the New entrenches the parochial view, and promotes the elevation of the Comfort Zone.
Cocoa and the cocoa-bean are of course the basis of chocolate, and we're feeling this on many levels. We celebrate the "chocolate" peoples and their cultures; a people the colour and ecstatic taste of chocolate. Also, cocoa is originally from the Amazon and Orinoco basins in South America, and this impresses us with the Exotic, and the Tropical .
Of course cocoa-beans are now associated with Ivory Coast, where the picture above, of a Man grading cocoa-beans was taken. We like especially the association of the word Cocoa/Coco with tropical Africa. (huh, Coco Chanel? what's that?)
Astronauts are cool people who dive into the Deep Unknown of Space, exploring and discovering. RoCocoNaut is about exploration and discovery in the exciting space of contemporary tropical culture where The New is being developed with boldness. We champion the New and the Makers of the New, especially in the great big non-white world huddled around Planet Earth's exotic tropics.
